Courmayeur, the queen of the Alps
Courmayeur is historically known as a precious city. As a matter of fact, it was the location of a mine in ancient Roman times, where gold was extracted from quartz.
The current name, however, comes from the Middle Ages, where the presence of a church called Curia Maior, meaning the seat of a parish, over time turned into Courmayeur.
Today, the town is the perfect combination of tradition and nature, as evidenced by the fresh waters of the Dora Baltea river that flow across its streets, full of history to amaze yourself with.

Opened in 1929, this museum holds documents, memorabilia and climbing equipment that tell the origins and evolution of mountaineering, a beloved sport that owes its birth to the challenges that this very territory has posed to humankind.
Parish Church of the Saints Pantaleon and Valentine
Having become an icon of the historic centre of Courmayeur, the church includes a bell tower whose exact construction period is unknown, surmounted by a later modified tiara-shaped pinnacle, presumably in memory of the popes’ residency in Avignon.
